AQUARIUS PROJECT
The Kajiado district is a semi arid area of southern Kenya that suffers regular drought conditions, is about the size of Israel, has no permanently flowing rivers and is populated mainly by Maasai pastoralists.
The area needs a thorough survey to ascertain the type and number of water collection areas that need/can be constructed.
It is estimated that up to 50 pans or dams, 150 shallow wells and as many rock catchments and river weirs as can be identified will be constructed. Also water storage tanks and stock watering points will be provided in addition to rehabilitating existing out of use boreholes and drilling new ones if deemed appropriate. The training of water committees and communities will also be a priority.
The initial surveys will probably cost over £300,000 and we will probably need over £1,000,000, in total, to complete the work.
KDDT[UK] are looking for some large donors who can help us undertake this very important work to support the local communities of the Kajiado District of Kenya.
