Education Projects. The following types of Education Projects are available.
(1) Supply of desks,
blackboard, books etc for existing schools.
Many of the schools
in this region have very limited supplies of books and materials. Some do not even have desks or seats. The provision of good quality desk costs
around £25 but delivery can be expensive at upwards of a £1 per kilometre. Sometimes the costs are shared on a 50/50
basis with the schools Parent Teacher Association. A very small amount of money can make a lot
of difference to the children in this area.
(2) Construction of
Nursery Schools. These are usually built out of corrugated metal (mabati) on a wooden frame with shutters and concrete floor the building can be used as a place of worship and for adult education seminars, family planning, aids awareness etc. The cost is from £800 depending on size, location etc.
(3) Construction
of These usually consist of a nursery class, first four standards and headmasters office. It can be built of mabati, concrete blocks, dressed quarried stone, or local stone with plain or plastic coated mabati roof and concrete or terrazzo floor with glazed, metal framed, windows or wooden shutters. The cost will depend on the materials used, location, availability of water and facilities provided. It is estimated that the total costs will be in the range £10,000 to £25,000. |

Ilmao Primary School. This comprises 9 classrooms, staff room, headmasters office, toilets and a kitchen. The project was sponsored by a church group, in Surrey England [the Parish of Wisley with Pyrford]. Links have also been established between their local school and the Ilmao School. The school was officially opened on the 10th April 2006 by the local MP and Bill Borley from Wisley with Pyrford Parish in the UK. Various other dignitaries were present as well as our patron the Rev Judith Rose. The picture above was taken on the day. As well as being used as a school it is also used for church services, a health centre, and for seminars.
Illuanat Primary School Because there is always water in the nearby catchment the local community have built a Primary School using mabati sheeting. KDDT[UK] have provided funds for a concrete floor plus some textbooks and reading books. Our Project Director (Roger Milton) also persuaded Inaudot School to give them eight of their old desks. The picture on the left was taken in April 2005 and shows an inside view. Koora School. This project was sponsored by a business man and his wife from Maidstone (Kent, UK) in memory of their daughter. Additional monies were provided from other KDDT[UK] funds. The school is situated in a remote area of the Kajiado district. The pictures below were taken in April 2003 and show the front view of the school. Losenyai School. KDDT[UK] with the help of a group of women called “Hartlip Wives” (from Kent, England) have provided funding for a new classroom. In addition books and other equipment have been supplied. We also arranged for Koora School to give them six of the old desks that they were using before we supplied the new desks. The pictures below were taken in April 2003. Some school books and materials have also been supplied.
