Water Projects. Much of the Kajiado District suffers from regular droughts and the Maasai herdsmen who make up the majority of the population lose a large amount of their cattle each time this occurs. Their families also suffer with many of the young and aged dying from malnutrition related diseases. Over the past 20 years KDDT[UK] and its predecessors have provided/constructed: (1) Water catchments including River barrage dams. (3) Water Tanks [either Ferro-cement or plastic]. [For more details please click on the specific subject above.] Water catchments and water tanks can only supply if it rains if it does not rain then they are useless. Shallow wells can be dug to release water from the underground water table but to this we needed an accurate system for finding the water and on many occasions a means of drilling bore holes. To help us in the provision of shallow wells KDDT[UK] made the decision, in 2001, to use a large portion of our then accrued funds and to seek extra sponsorship to purchase:
Both of these items have now been acquired and are in use. In 2005 KDDT[UK] purchased a 4WD vehicle which is being used to transport the various equipments and people. ALL this has been achieved with the major help of Rotary Clubs in the UK and Europe. This has been termed "Project Aquarius". Click here for further details. |
